About Shipbreaking

Good and bad scrapping

Shipwrecks can be dismantled in several ways. The photo gallery shows good versus bad scrapping. Images of asbestos removal, pollution of soil and water, pictures of fire and explosions, as well as toxic gasses.

Greenpeace witnessed shipbreaking in Asia and took pictures of appalling working conditions and heavily contaminated environments. The other images are of shipbreaking practices in industrialised countries, where strict regulations, closed and controlled systems, mandatory gas-free certificates dominate.
