My mother took me to visit a Greenpeace
ship when I was 14 years old because I had always been interested
in the ocean and wildlife. I visited the first Rainbow Warrior
again on my own when I was 20. Years later when I was working
for media companies in Sydney, Australia, a friend who worked
for Greenpeace asked me to travel to a sea turtle reserve
in Queensland and take pictures of the conservation efforts
there. I had so much fun that I continued volunteering for
various activities including a maintenance period on the new
Rainbow Warrior. I have been on the ships ever since.
One of my favorite memories of these
fifteen years is marching along the Antarctic shore carrying
a sign that said, 'Open Boat Tonight' on one side and, 'Save
the Whales' on the other.
