I joined Greenpeace in 2001 when the Rainbow Warrior was coming
to Lebanon. During this ship tour I stayed on board helping
and preparing for the events. At the end of the ship visit,
I just couldn't leave. I loved the spirit on the ship, the
crew, the type of work, and I really wanted to stay and get
more involved. So I managed to stay and sail with the ship
to Turkey and stay onboard for a month. I guess that was my
first Greenpeace experience. After that I came back home,
and got even more involved with Greenpeace work. I had already
finished all of my studies (Agricultural engineering and masters
in environmental sciences) and was doing some freelancing
environmental projects for income while living as a fulltime
volunteer Greenpeacer.
The office in Lebanon is small but has a
high spirit, with very few staff and a big group of volunteer
activists involved to various extents. I was there as an activist
but doing all sort of action and campaign work (research,
documentation, actions and action coordination, logistics,
climbing and action training, etc). With the Indian prophecy
in mind, I joined Greenpeace ships to connect with the other
offices, with people sharing same ideas and concepts, trying
to achieve the same goals in various parts of the world, learning
and contributing, joining efforts in spreading the message
My favorite campaign: "Ban the Sad" , "Sad
is Bad" :))))
