Response to Bang & Olufsen

Bang & Olufsen will send you the following reply:

I can inform you that we use an embedded broomer (brominated flame retardant) (TBBA) in our printcards, but we will phase this out as soon at there is an environmentally safe substitute. The broomer we are using is certified by the EU and as it is embedded in the printcards it does not emmit any harmfull gasses.

Regarding phthalates and PVC we are phasing these out in 2006. We are only using these in our electrical cables and we are already replacing the phthalates and PVC with other materials whereever possible.

In general I can say that we produce as environmentally safe products as possible. I hope the above clarifies the matter.

Our Response:

Unlike some companies, Bang & Olufsen does address the questions you raised in the original email. According to their information, Bang & Olufsen has a progressive policy on PVC and are committed to phasing out brominated flame retardants. But they have not comitted to a time frame for all these changes yet.

Some companies, including Sony and Nokia, have already committed to phasing out the brominated flame retardant that Bang & Olufsen uses and we are looking forward to hear a similar commitment from Bang & Olufsen in the near future.

Due to the lack of a time frame Bang & Olufsen is rated worse than Samsung and Sony on our products database on TV's.

Please reply to Bang & Olufsen to ask them for a date when they will phase out these chemicals.
